Canada Work Permit from Pakistan
A step-by-step guide to the Canadian work permit process — from finding legitimate employment to travelling to Canada.
💼 Complete Work Permit Process
Understand the type of work permit
Canada has employer-specific work permits and open work permits. Open work permits are available only in specific situations. Check which type applies to you before starting an application.
Find legitimate employment when required
If you need an employer-specific work permit, you generally need employment with a Canadian employer before applying. Verify the employer and job carefully.
Check the LMIA or exemption requirements
Some employer-specific work permits involve a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Other jobs may be LMIA-exempt. Your employer must complete the applicable employer steps before you apply.
Get the required information from your employer
Depending on the work-permit category, you may need documents or information relating to your employment, such as your employment contract and an LMIA decision or an LMIA-exempt offer of employment number.
Prepare your personal documents
- Valid passport or travel document
- Documents required for your work-permit category
- Evidence that you meet the requirements of the job
- Employment documents when required
- Any additional documents shown on your IRCC checklist
Apply through IRCC
Follow the official IRCC instructions for applying for a work permit from outside Canada. Complete the application accurately, upload the required documents and pay the applicable fees.
Give biometrics if required
If IRCC requires biometrics, follow the biometric instruction letter and use an official biometric collection location.
Complete a medical examination if required
A medical examination may be required depending on factors such as the work you plan to do, where you have lived and the length of your stay. Follow IRCC instructions and use an approved panel physician when required.
Wait for the decision
IRCC reviews your application and may request additional documents or information. Processing times vary, so use IRCC's official processing-time tool for current estimates.
If your application is approved
If you apply from outside Canada and your application is approved, IRCC provides instructions and, when applicable, a port-of-entry letter of introduction. Follow all instructions about the travel documents you need.
Travel to Canada and receive your work permit
Bring the documents IRCC tells you to carry. A border services officer determines whether you can enter Canada and, when applicable, prints your work permit at the port of entry. Check the permit carefully before leaving the inspection area.
Get a Social Insurance Number after arrival
A Social Insurance Number (SIN) is required to work in Canada and to access government programs and benefits. Eligible temporary residents can apply through Service Canada.
A job offer does not guarantee that Canada will issue a work permit. PakPardes does not guarantee employment or visa approval. Verify employers and recruiters independently and be especially cautious of anyone selling guaranteed Canadian jobs, LMIAs or visas.
